Most businesses say they offer flexibility… a “work/life balance”, but do they really and to what extent?
In a lot of cases, it is not until you start working for a company that you find out that they are flexible however they also want to know where you are and what you are doing at all times.
Let me start from the beginning….
I made the very hard decision a few months ago to leave Australia and move back to Ireland with my family after 12 wonderful years here in Australia.
Ambition has been my home away from home for the past 9 years. I have met and worked with so many wonderful people and count some as my closest friends today. I met my partner and have had 2 beautiful children – all on Ambition’s clock.
It is hard handing in your notice when you want to leave a job, but it is even harder when you don’t. The day I walked into Ambition to hand in my notice to Nick Waterworth (Co-Founder & Group CEO) and Adam Forster (Managing Director of Australia) was a very hard day for me. They were shocked (which is somewhat of an understatement), however when this wore off, their response made me feel valued and supported even on the way out.
Fast forward 2 weeks, and to say I was completely blown away by the opportunity that Ambition subsequently offered me would be a huge understatement.
“Would you like to continue working for Ambition remotely from Ireland?
If you do, we can make this work…. You can work your own hours that work for you and your family and still be part of the team.”
WOW! You mean to say:
I ‘m going home to spend some long-awaited quality time with my family AND.... I get to keep a job that I love, working hours that suit my family, in a company that I have dedicated the last 9 years of my life to... and one that has supported me every step of the way.
