Financial Reporting Manager

The Financial Reporting Manager is responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant financial, management, and statutory reporting for the Bank. This role oversees general ledger integrity, drives process and control improvements, and ensures a strong financial control environment across the function. The Financial Reporting Manager also provides technical guidance, supports the development of Financial Reporting Analysts and Senior Financial Accountants, and partners closely with the Financial Controller and CFO to enable informed decision-making.

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control

  • Lead the consolidation, reconciliation, and validation of financial data from multiple sources to support accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the quality, completeness, and appropriateness of data required for statutory and regulatory reporting.
  • Manage the integration and reconciliation of data flows into the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Support the Financial Controller and CFO with monthly management reporting, including variance analysis and performance insights.
  • Oversee intercompany settlements and allocations received from Group Finance.
  • Maintain GL integrity, including reviewing complex transactions, updating account structures, and managing changes to cost centres and the overall GL framework.

Tax

  • Partner with the Group Tax team to assess the Bank's tax position for monthly tax journals and the preparation of the annual consolidated tax return for the Heartland Australia Banking Group.
  • Periodically review GST treatment of bank transactions, including preparation of RCTIs for relevant suppliers.
  • Ensure timely submission of quarterly QTFN and annual AIIR reports to the ATO.

Statutory Reporting

  • Prepare annual financial statements for the Bank and contribute to the Group's Consolidated Annual Report.
  • Develop audit files and manage queries from internal and external auditors.
  • Contribute to Board and Committee reporting, including preparation of accounting position papers and analysis on new accounting standards or reporting areas.

Other

  • Partner with Risk to develop provisioning methodologies, calculate expected credit losses (ECL), and prepare associated reporting for management and the Board.
  • Work across Finance, Technology, Operations, and Risk to resolve finance system issues promptly and effectively.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on projects involving acquisitions, system changes, new accounting standards, accounting policy updates, and emerging transactions.
  • Champion continuous improvement, driving enhancements to processes, controls, and cross‑functional collaboration across the Bank.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and Group stakeholders.
  • Provide team coverage as needed and contribute to team capability growth.

Experience

  • CPA or CA qualified (or equivalent).
  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
  • Approximately 10 years of relevant experience in financial reporting, financial control, or similar roles within banking, financial services, life insurance, or funds management.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge paired with practical commercial experience.
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement and embedding operational excellence.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams, building capability and driving engagement.
  • Knowledge of corporate regulatory requirements, governance, conduct frameworks, and risk management practices (essential).
  • Banking experience in a finance-focused role (preferred).
