Financial Controller

Job description

Well-established, consumer-facing organisation to appoint a hands-on Financial Controller.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the business, partnering with senior leaders and taking ownership of day-to-day finance operations in a fast-paced, operational environment. The focus is not on reinventing the wheel, but on lifting existing reporting and processes, improving visibility and doing things better.

Reporting to the CFO and managing a Financial Accountant, this role works closely with the CEO and Operations teams and offers a clear pathway into a CFO role within the next two years.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the month-end close across 4 entities, ensuring timely and accurate delivery
  • Prepare management accounts and reporting packs for CFO and leadership
  • Provide variance analysis and insights on financial performance
  • Maintain general ledger integrity, including journals, accruals and reconciliations
  • Ensure monthly balance sheet reconciliations are completed and reviewed
  • Oversee statutory compliance including GST, PAYG, FBT, superannuation and reporting obligations
  • Ensure audit-ready financial records and robust internal controls
  • Review existing accounting and compliance processes to identify opportunities to improve reporting and efficiency
  • Ensure payroll compliance and alignment with statutory requirements
  • Partner with the CFO on system and process enhancements as the business grows
  • Partner closely with the CEO, Operations and functional leaders
  • Act as a visible, commercially minded finance partner across the organisation

About you:

  • CA or CPA qualified essential
  • Proven experience in a hands-on finance leadership role
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a circa $20m turnover environment
  • Strong experience across reporting, compliance and payroll oversight
  • Experience working on Xero is essential
  • Enjoys business partnering and working closely with non-finance stakeholders
  • Operational, proactive and improvement-focused
  • Background in consumer-facing, operational or multi-site environments will be highly regarded
