Ambition is excited to be exclusively partnering with The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) to hire their next Finance Manager.

AIMS delivers independent science to help improve the health and resilience of marine and coastal ecosystems across Australia.

This mission-based organisation is seeking an enthusiastic Finance Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting, financial and commercial processes. This integral role will be the 2IC to the CFO and will be based on-site at their state-of-the-art research facility in Townsville, or their offices in Perth.

The role requires a hands-on individual who will help drive the strategic direction of the company. Candidates from Federal Government or commerce with strong finance and project management experience in systems improvement are urged to apply.

Duties include:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Financial Services overseeing finance and management reporting, project costing, revenue support and capital expenditure.
  • Coordinate the management and development of the TechnologyOne Integrated ERP System
  • Oversee the maintenance of the finance policies.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance to staff and the Chief Finance Officer on complex financial matters, including the provision of guidelines, reports and interpretation of legislation and accounting standards to ensure all statutory and Commonwealth requirements are met.
  • Provide strategic financial planning and forecasting information including preparation of the annual budget and regular forecast updates.
  • Managing our organisation's statutory obligations including Payroll Tax, GST, FBT and other returns, ensuring timely preparation and lodgement.
  • Ensure all outstanding debts and payments are made in accordance with policies, systems and the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability (PGPA) Act requirements.
  • Prepare and lodge GST, fringe benefit tax and other returns within set timeframes.
  • Produce annual financial statements within set deadlines ensuring Australian Accounting Standards are met.
  • Manage a team of 10 (2 X Senior financial accountants, Senior BA, Project Accountant, Financial Accountant and accounting support staff
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure that the Institute's requirements are met.

Skills:

  • CA/CPA qualified essential.
  • A minimum of 10 years extensive experience in an end-to-end finance role with project management
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a large team.
  • Experience in developing ERP systems (i.e., integration of business processes). Strong preference will be given to candidates with Technology One
  • Knowledge of financial reporting legislative requirements for Commonwealth Statutory Authorities.
