Senior Financial Accountant

A privately owned Australian investment group with a strong focus on property and hospitality is looking for a Senior Financial Accountant. The business invests across hotels, pubs, residential and mixed-use assets and takes a hands on approach to owning and operating its portfolio.

This is a genuine temp to perm opportunity with a clear pathway to a permanent role for someone who performs well and wants to grow with the business.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will have real ownership of the accounting function, leading month end reporting, reconciliations and providing deeper insights that support the business. This is not a junior role, it's for someone who can step in, take charge of their work and help lift the whole team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead preparation of end of month reporting and support the month end close process
  • Review general ledger expenses, prepare accruals and adjusting entries
  • Complete bank, credit card and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Check venue daily reporting and cash reconciliations for accuracy
  • Verify expenses and ensure correct approvals and financial controls are followed
  • Manage intercompany transactions and utilities accounting
  • Perform variance analysis and provide insights for management reporting
  • Work alongside the team on revenue, expense and payroll forecasting
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll as needed
  • Assist with audit preparation and support external auditors

Skills and experience:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a similar accounting role
  • CA/CPA Qualified
  • MYOB Advanced experience preferred
  • Strong MS Excel skills and solid financial systems understanding
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to apply accounting principles to research and resolve issues
  • Well organised with good time management and ability to handle competing priorities
  • Flexible, proactive and willing to assist the wider team
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for your own performance
