Senior Finance & Operations Leader

Job description

We're partnering with a specialist organisation in the insurance space to recruit a newly created senior leadership role. This position has become business critical, with the company holding off on signing new client work until the right person is in place.

If you're an experienced finance professional with strong insurance sector experience and enjoy balancing technical work with people leadership, this opportunity offers a meaningful chance to make a real impact.

About the Role

You'll take responsibility for both the Finance and Operations teams, ensuring they work smoothly together to deliver accurate reporting, strong regulatory compliance and excellent service to a varied client base across the insurance ecosystem.

This position is ideal for someone who combines technical confidence with a calm, credible leadership style. You'll act as the senior escalation point for financial and operational matters, play a key advisory role to the CEO, and contribute directly to how the business scales.

The organisation values openness, collaboration and a practical approach to leadership.

What You'll Be Doing

Leadership and Alignment

  • Lead and support both team managers, helping them develop capability and strengthen processes.
  • Build alignment between Finance and Operations, creating a unified and resilient working environment.
  • Contribute to operational planning as the business prepares for new client onboarding.

Client Delivery, Compliance and APRA Oversight

  • Ensure all financial, regulatory and operational outputs are accurate, complete and consistently delivered on time.
  • Review technical work including APRA related reporting and prudential requirements, providing guidance where needed.
  • Maintain the organisation's reputation for accuracy, quality and reliability.

Operational Improvement

  • Oversee workflow planning, KPIs and capacity management across both functions.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes and embed improvements that help the business scale.
  • Support implementation of changes that enhance client service and internal efficiency.

People Leadership

  • Mentor team leads and foster a culture of accountability and continual improvement.
  • Drive cross training and succession planning to reduce single points of failure.

Insights and Reporting

  • Provide accurate, timely reporting to the CEO and executive team.
  • Turn technical information into clear insights that help guide decision making and future planning.

Who We're Looking For

You will thrive here if you bring:

  • CA or CPA qualification
  • 5 to 10 plus years of experience within the general insurance sector whether in an insurer, reinsurer or MGA
  • Strong familiarity with APRA reporting and prudential frameworks
  • Experience leading teams and improving processes
  • Confidence engaging senior stakeholders including international clients
  • A grounded, thoughtful leadership style that earns respect
  • A genuine interest in enhancing how Finance and Operations work together

This role is well suited to a Financial Controller ready for a broader remit or a strong Senior Manager from a large insurance group ready to step up. Big Four candidates with relevant insurance exposure are also encouraged to apply.
