Financial Accountant

Job description

A prestigious and highly regarded family office is recruiting a Financial Accountant to join its growing finance team. This is a rare opportunity to step into a high visibility role at a pivotal point in the business, as the group continues to bring shared services in house and scale its investment operations.

You will have a key seat at the table, working closely with the Deputy CFO, and taking ownership of the financial accounting for one of the group's investment entities, with clear scope for your portfolio to grow over time as the business expands.

The Opportunity

This role is ideally suited to a technically strong accountant who enjoys month end ownership but is also hands on and adaptable, happy to get involved in ad hoc and transactional work where required. As the family office continues to evolve, this role offers genuine career progression across multiple revenue streams and investment structures.

It is an excellent opportunity for:

  • Big 4 / professional services trained accountants
  • Second movers with 1+ years post qualified experience
  • Candidates who thrive in a start up environment within a sophisticated, well capitalised organisation

Key Responsibilities

As Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for the day to day financial operations of one of the group's entities, including:

  • Ownership of month end close, including journals, accruals and reconciliations
  • Contributing to accurate and timely month end reporting across the group
  • Supporting technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition
  • Supporting FBT and depreciation schedules across group entities
  • Managing vendor relationships and liaising with external service providers
  • Working closely with the Deputy CFO on financial reporting, analysis and ad hoc projects
  • Supporting audits and working with external advisors and auditors
  • Getting involved in ad hoc transactional work as required, particularly during the transition to in house shared services
  • Contributing to the ongoing improvement of processes, controls and reporting frameworks

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • CA or CPA qualified
  • Ideally Big 4 or professional services background, with at least 1 year post qualified experience
  • Strong technical accounting fundamentals and month end capability
  • Exposure to payroll (small headcount, ~20 people maximum) preferred
  • Experience working in fast paced, evolving environments
  • High attention to detail with strong commercial awareness
  • Confidence communicating with senior stakeholders, auditors and advisors
  • A proactive, hands on mindset, comfortable rolling up your sleeves when required

Why This Role?

  • Rare opportunity within a prestigious family office
  • High exposure role working directly with senior finance leadership
  • Key role in bringing shared services in house
  • Genuine scope for your portfolio and responsibilities to grow as the business grows
  • Broad exposure across investments and revenue streams
  • Long term career opportunity rather than a "narrow" accounting role
