Role Overview
As a Claims Business Data Analyst, you'll partner closely with the Head of Claims Operations for A&NZ to deliver high-impact claims projects and management information (MI) reporting. Your primary focus will be modernising and migrating legacy reporting systems into Qlik Sense or Power BI, delivering actionable insights through detailed data analysis and business impact assessments.
You will also drive continuous process improvement and change management across the Claims function. With a hands-on approach to stakeholder engagement and project execution, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring initiatives are delivered on time, meet business objectives, and improve operational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain MI reports tailored for claims management and leadership
- Design dashboards and analytical tools to monitor and improve operational performance
- Support system and process enhancement projects, including requirements gathering and solution scoping
- Lead requirement analysis, process mapping, and collaborate closely with IT teams
- Design and execute test cases for user acceptance testing (UAT); act as lead tester or SME where necessary
- Become a subject matter expert (SME) in claims systems and workflows
- Conduct data-driven evaluations to support business cases and identify efficiency gains
- Partner with internal teams to gather data required for regulatory claims reporting
- Streamline and optimise claims processes using automation and reusable frameworks
- Deliver ad hoc analyses and reporting for both internal and external stakeholders
- Champion smaller-scale operational initiatives as assigned
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated stakeholder engagement ability
- Solid grounding in business analysis methodologies and lifecycle management
- Familiarity with database structures and query languages
- Proficiency in Excel and experience with data analysis tools or scripting (e.g. SQL, Python, R, VBA); Qlik Sense or Power BI skills are highly valued
- Exposure to project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms
- Understanding of insurance systems or solutions is beneficial
- Working knowledge of SDLC and methodologies such as Agile or Iterative development
- Knowledge of general insurance and claims operations preferred
- Excellent time management, prioritisation, and a high degree of attention to detail
- Self-directed, proactive, and eager to embrace new technologies
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Essential Experience
- 6+ years' experience in data analysis, reporting or business analysis (less experience considered if technical expertise is exceptional)
- Proven ability to translate data into insights and recommendations for business stakeholders
- Minimum 3 years in the insurance sector
- Experience in system-related roles including business analysis, development, or application support
- Hands-on experience with UAT/SIT processes and requirements documentation
- Advanced proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Microsoft Word
