Financial Controller

Job description

This is a rare opportunity to step into a Financial Controller role with genuine scope for progression, within a fast‑growing, high‑performance organisation generating $250m+ in annual turnover.

We are partnering with a market‑leading professional services business seeking a hands‑on, commercially minded finance leader who enjoys being close to the detail, while also shaping and uplifting a high‑performing team. This role will suit someone currently operating in a Senior Finance Manager, Finance Manager, or 2IC capacity, who is ready to take full ownership of the financial control function and continue building their leadership impact.

Reporting into senior finance leadership, this role has accountability across financial control, statutory compliance, reporting integrity, and team leadership, while acting as a trusted partner to stakeholders across Sales, Marketing, Procurement and the broader business.

You'll lead and support a team of three (Finance Accountant, Assistant Accountant and Accounts Payable), with a clear mandate to strengthen controls, drive process improvement, and develop capability within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end‑to‑end financial control, governance, and statutory compliance
  • Ensure month‑end integrity, balance sheet accuracy, and reporting excellence
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of finance professionals
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting
  • Drive continuous improvement across systems, processes and controls
  • Partner with non‑finance leaders to provide commercial insight and support decision‑making
  • Confidently manage upwards and contribute to senior leadership discussions

About You

  • CA or CPA qualified
  • Proven experience leading finance teams in a fast‑paced, performance‑driven environment
  • Strong technical grounding across financial control, reporting and compliance
  • Comfortable balancing hands‑on delivery with leadership and stakeholder engagement
  • Commercially astute, confident influencing beyond finance
  • Experience in a mid to large‑scale organisation (ideally $50m+ turnover)
