My background

Originally from Portsmouth in England, I moved to Sydney in January 2018 in search of blue skies and beaches!

My passion for all things people began when I studied Human Resource Management at the University of Portsmouth. I graduated in 2015 and started my first “real” job in HR which I absolutely loved. I worked for a housing association in a hybrid HR and talent acquisition role, recruiting across the care and support sector. High volume and incredibly fast paced, this role helped me to learn so much about operating in a highly saturated and competitive market. I learnt the importance of candidate experience and how I could use this to my advantage in a bid to stand out and differentiate from competitors.  I worked in this role for two and a half years before making the move to Sydney.

My first role in Sydney was working for a membership association called the Property Council of Australia. My role was national and involved both HR and talent acquisition. The roles I recruited for were really diverse and could involve anything from policy and advocacy, sales and events, marketing, IT or finance. I enjoyed my time here and leant a lot although it did take me a while to get used to all the different time zones in Australia! I was fortunate enough to get involved in a lot of projects, including the design and implementation of a new onboarding process which was a really good experience. I worked at the Property Council for just over a year before starting at Ambition in April 2019.

At Ambition I manage the HR and talent acquisition function. Our people are vital to the success of our business and my role has a big focus on employee engagement and development. I am also responsible for recruiting across our offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. My speed to market skills have been put to good use here due to the nature of operating in such a competitive and candidate short market. One of the best things about this role is seeing people develop. I love being part of their journey, especially with the junior Consultants. It’s a great feeling when they make their first placement or when they get promoted. I’m really passionate about the development of others and feel lucky that this forms a big part of my role with Ambition. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings.
