Oleksandra joined Ambition via our Bootcamp programme earlier in the year. She has since gone on to achieve a promotion to Delivery Consultant where she serves the Development and Application market.

Tell me about yourself?

I’m originally from Ukraine where I started my career as a Project Manager for an IT company. After a couple of years, I moved into an internal recruitment role. I did this for five years before moving to Australia in January this year.

Why did you choose Ambition?

I was approached by my Manager, Mark Jones, who found my profile on LinkedIn. Our first conversations were really positive and since then I wanted to be part of the Technology team and the exciting journey that Ambition is on.

Did the enjoy the Bootcamp and find it practical for your role?

The Bootcamp really helped me to gain an understanding of the Australian marketplace. It also honed my existing recruiting skills that I attained working in the European and the US markets.

Can you tell me more about the area of Technology that you specialise in?

My speciality is IT web recruitment and desktop. I seek out people who have skills in different technologies like Java, .Net, PHP, Python, C++, JavaScript, React, Angular as well as some Infrastructure roles.

Do you have a background in these technologies yourself?

Yes, I submitted part of my Diploma in the programming language, Pascal, as I completed a Master’s Degree in Maths and Mechanics.

What ‘s the favourite part of your job?

Meeting new people and building relationships with experienced professionals, learning from them about different technologies and market updates in the meantime. I need to stay ahead of the curve to do my job well, so I am constantly researching, which I also enjoy.

What do you do outside of work?

I used to do a lot of wakeboarding back in Ukraine and have found a place not too far from my new home here in Sydney to do it, but I’ll probably wait until the summer time to join!

How do you find Sydney compared to living in Ukraine?

Sydney is beautiful and there are so many things to see and activities to do. I already have all my weekends booked up to visit different places in and around the city.

If you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be?

I have already visited 28 countries and before arriving in Sydney my favourite city was Los Angeles. For my next trip, it’s my dream to visit Japan in the springtime. Sakura (cherry blossom) is a beautiful pink flower that grows all over the country so I would like to go there when they are blooming!
