Nardene Smith

Meet Nardene

Published on 3rd April 2017

We caught up with Nardene who has recently re-joined the Ambition Group after previously working for our Accounting Support team at AccountAbility.

Your background

I started recruitment at AccountAbility/Ambition in February 2011 in an Accounts Clerical temporary desk, making the change to IT Recruitment in 2015, always as a 360-degree recruiter.

Your role

I recruit everything Devops, DevSecOps, Security and anything within the Cloud!

What’s the best thing about your job?

There are a few things! In my sector, everyone is super-friendly and so receptive to educate people as the space is new and can sometimes be misunderstood.

Some of the projects and companies I work with are within gaming and the load capacity they can deal with is insane, sometimes streets ahead of a lot of businesses.

Some of the people are crimefighters and I get to hear of how they’ve played a part in helping catch offenders. I can't get into that at the moment and you probably wouldn’t be able to shut me up once I got started on the topic!

I learn so much about security and how it can be installed throughout the business. From simple actions like a customer service team reconfirming a guessed email address. I also always ensure my phones on flight mode at security events!

What’s your best piece of advice to job seekers?

If you get nervous at interview situations, always remember that even although it can be intimidating, we're all people and we all go home to families, do things outside of work and probably have more in common than you think.

Who has inspired you and why?

That would be some of my friends in the industry. A General Manager at a recruitment firm taught me to recruit in my own style which made me grow as a recruiter. I continue to learn from a few of my friends in the industry as there are a few good eggs in recruitment.

Also, my Mum. She’s really competitive and can boast some epic achievements and continues to drive me.

You joined AccountAbility back in 2011 what made you want to come back to the Ambition Group?

I remembered how fun and supportive the business was when I initially worked here. Another reason being, when I was in the market the Ambition brand kept coming up. And obviously I met the team and they were down-to -earth and offered me the things I was looking for (including a shiny new office)!

What does Ambition mean to you?

Ambition means a fun, collaborative, supportive environment with a bunch of grounded, ethical people who genuinely want to do a good job!
