The executives achieving success are almost always busy doing something else. In my experience, looking for a job is NOT a full-time exercise.
Yes, you need to have your résumé perfect - in fact, you'll need a few versions for different situations.
Yes, you need to go and meet the executive search firms.
Yes, you need to get out and tap into your network.
But yes, you need to be acutely aware of Parkinson's law where work expands so as to fill the time available.
So, get busy.
Interim management has been part of the landscape for many years in the UK. It is coming of age fast in Australia and is beginning to be used by employers in Asia.
Some interim assignments are incredibly challenging and highly paid. Some are a little more mundane and remunerated accordingly.
But that's not the point. You'll be busy. You'll be part of the network, not simply trying to tap in to it.
Some can even be 'try before you buy' situations - great for both sides.
So get involved. Who knows, it might even lead to a modern-day portfolio career. But for sure, there's no downside.
