Andrew Cross - Managing Director, Technology
Andy has been recruiting in the Information Technology sector both in the UK and Australia since 1996.
Prior to joining Ambition Andrew earned his recruitment skills working for a large multinational recruitment organisation in the UK, before transferring to Australia as one of a small team tasked with the establishment of their new IT recruitment practice in Sydney.
A trained lawyer with a specialisation in employment issues, Andy has worked for a number of blue chip clients over the past decade including Accenture and Minter Ellison Lawyers. His main strengths lie in: Human resources business strategy, client relationship management, marketing & sales delivery, team building & coaching.
Joining Ambition Technology in 2006 as Managing Director, Andy is responsible for the future growth of the technology business taking the success of NSW and replicating this interstate. Andy is a current serving board member of ITCRA (Information Technology Contract Recruitment Association) and is passionate about driving forward the Information Technology industry.
Simon Tobin – Managing Director, Finance, NSW
Simon Tobin is Managing Director for Ambition’s Banking & Financial Services recruitment business in Australia. He has recruited finance professionals in Australia since 1997, spending the bulk of that time in various consulting roles and, ultimately as a national business line Director at a multinational recruiter. Simon has a very strong network in the finance community in Australia having most recently placed senior level professionals across a variety of financial institutions.
Prior to recruitment, Simon was a psychologist working for the Queensland Government. He joined Ambition in 2010, attracted by the calibre of people, the strong internal culture and the company’s market positioning as a leading global boutique recruitment business.
David Bamford – Director, Finance, VIC
David commenced his career in chartered accounting in 1998 working with Pitcher Partners in Melbourne, where he subsequently spent 6 years and gained his CA qualification. Passionate about sport and Finance, David competed in the Olympics in badminton before embarking on his career in recruitment. He moved into the Melbourne finance recruitment market working as a Senior Consultant and progressed to Manager within Michael Page recruiting middle management finance professionals.
After developing his finance recruitment and leadership skills for 5 years, David took on a role establishing the Victorian finance practice for a boutique executive search & selection firm, where he spent two years. David joined Ambition in early 2010 and is the Director of the Finance recruitment business for Victoria. He brings together his accounting knowledge, leadership skills and in-depth experience in executive finance recruitment and careers planning. David and his team support CFOs and HRDs with the attraction, recruitment and retention of high calibre financial professionals from recently qualified accountants through to CFO level.
David Trapnell - Divisional Director, Finance & Accounting
David is a Business Studies Graduate from Brighton University. He started his career in sales at Hewlett Packard before joining Michael Page International as a recruitment consultant in 1994. During his career David has recruited and advised clients at all levels on financial recruitment and talent management, from part qualified accountants to CFO’s.
After 10 years recruiting in the UK & Europe he joined Ambition in January 2005 initially managing the CBD commerce & industry team, then as Director leading a team of Managers and Consultants within the CBD & South practice. David’s recruitment focus is at the $150,000 - $300,000+ level where he has a wealth of experience advising finance executives, MD’s and Boards.
Rory Herity - Director, Ambition Queensland

Rory has worked in the recruitment industry for over 10 years, his experience spans senior management positions across Brisbane, Sydney and Dublin since 2002. Rory holds a Bachelors of Business and has spent the last 6 years in a leadership role with Ambition. His recruitment background includes IT, Finance & Engineering recruitment having built very strong relationships with our closet clients and candidates.
Rory's knowledge and expertise enables a truly consultative approach to both careers planning and search & selection mandates for leading Corporates.
Rory has successfully built and managed a number of our most successful recruitment teams, he goes to great lengths to instill our company values in our employees and ensure our consultants perform at a level that has helped us set the benchmark in our industry. Having successfully managed our Technology Division in NSW for a number of years Rory has recently moved to Brisbane. His role as Director for Ambition in Queensland is to expand our Finance & Technology recruitment offering across South East Queensland.
